Congratulations Grandio®!
The nano-classic still beats the competition as an allround-talent after five years
Product range welcomes new addition – Grandio® Flow also now available in caps
Five Grandio®-filled years - which mean the nano-hybrid composites have been on the dental market for five years. With the 2003 Grandio® introduction, VOCO set standards as the first provider of this new generation of high performance restoratives and announced its claim as a technology leader. Proven countless times throughout the world, Grandio® is already recognised as a nano-classic only five years after its premiere. Due to its special material properties, universal application and convenient handling, Grandio® ranks internationally as one of the most successful restoratives. Complete and durable treatment of all cavity classes is accomplished with Grandio®.
Grandio® is suited for multiple indications found in routine dentistry thanks to its multifaceted qualities and innovative expansion of the product range. There is Grandio® Flow, which is the flowable specifically designed for minimally invasive restorations such as tunnel preparation and now available in convenient Caps for a hygienic single application. Grandio® and Grandio® Flow - the same all-round convincing and safe solution for every situation in restorative therapy – is also the message of the of the new concise brand appearance with the blue life preserver. The ultimate stability and aesthetics in both posterior and anterior dentition – “Only Grandio® can do that. The nano classic.”
Outstanding material properties of an all round-talent
All Grandio® products hallmark outstanding material properties which have been scientifically documented in well over 100 studies. The proven excellence of Grandio® as an all-round-talent lies directly in its combination of diverse qualities. Incredibly high filler content, low polymerisation shrinkage, amazing surface hardness and extreme abrasion resistance, high compressive and transverse strength as well as an E-modulus that compares with natural tooth substance all belong to the long list of Grandio®‘s attributes. Grandio® is additionally persuasive with its 16 shades in graduated levels of opacity, excellent shade stability and tooth-like translucency.
Optimal handling for a fast and simple treatment
Grandio® also earns bonus points for its optimal handling properties. Over and over, dentists enthusiastically give accounts of Grandio®‘s smooth, non-sticky consistency that facilitates downright simple handling and an efficient treatment. Grandio® is uncomplicated to shape and simplifies adaptation to the existing morphology of the tooth. In conjunction with the short exposure and curing time (20 seconds for a 2 mm layer), a time-saving restoration can be carried out with Grandio®. Compatibility with all current, especially nano-reinforced, adhesives provides powerful adhesion to dentine and enamel. Grandio® also guarantees long-lasting lustre stability of the finish with its high degree of surface hardness.
As a universal restorative, Grandio® meets all of the requirements for durable and aesthetically perfect dental restorations and is the result of consistent, continuous development work by the Cuxhaven dental manufacturer. Manfred Plaumann, CEO of VOCO, states “We have conducted research to develop a material that serves as a direct restorative that is suitable for all cavity classes and provides durable, aesthetic reconstructions. The result of our research: Grandio® - the absolute nano-restorative.“
Incredibly high filler content and low shrinkage
In recent studies, Grandio® placed in the top group of the respective tested composites again because of its low shrinkage values. Even now after five years of market presence, Grandio® leads the way with the specific properties of a modern, light-curing nano-hybrid composite. Grandio® combines modified, evenly distributed nano-particles with glass ceramic particles that are exactly coordinated in size in a composite resin matrix. Due to the extremely high filler load from the inorganic nano-particles and accompanying lowering of the resin portion, polymerisation shrinkage is minimised. Grandio® has an incredibly high filler content of 87 w/w %. Even the flowable Grandio® Flow with its measured filler content of 80.2 w/w % can compete with high viscosity composites.
High surface hardness and abrasion resistance
The incredibly high filler content lends Grandio® a pronounced surface hardness (84 HV) that is superior to conventional composites. Grandio® is likewise a superbly abrasion resistant material. The abrasion measurements using the ACTA method simulates long-term wear of tooth surfaces through chew and grind processes. Grandio® exhibited the lowest abrasion here with 18 µm in comparison to other composites. The extreme surface hardness and abrasion resistance not only benefit uniform masticatory stability and thus clinical longevity of the restoration, but also durability of the finish.
High compressive and transverse strength and dentine-like E modulus
Grandio®’s high compressive and transverse strength and a dentine-like, high elasticity modulus are especially convincing characteristics. Grandio®’s E-modulus of 17.1 GPa is quite near the mean value for dentine (18.5 GPa). Thus Grandio® behaves like the surrounding natural tooth substance when loaded and is ideally suited for posterior restorations with its extremely high margin stability. Moreover, Grandio® exhibits thermal expansion behaviour in situ that is nearly identical to natural tooth substance. Due to the low shrinkage and pronounced similarity of the material to natural tooth substance, stress on the walls of the cavity is considerably reduced and the potential for stress between tooth and restorative is effectively avoided. The risk for both fractures and marginal leakage with the resulting danger of the development of secondary caries is therefore reduced.
Natural shade adaptation and aesthetics
Grandio® is available in 16 popular shades with graduated opacity in syringes and caps. The excellent polishability, shade stability and natural translucency provide the foundation for highly aesthetic restorations that are as close as possible to the natural ideal. The Dental Advisor, a renowned U.S. consumer report-type journal, made the following statement about Grandio®: “Many restorations are undetectable.” Already with the single shade technique, highly aesthetic restorations can be realized with minimal effort. Special indications can also be fulfilled with the special shade “Bleach Light”. This shade is thus not only suitable for bleached teeth, but also particularly useful in paediatric dentistry. Grandio® Flow, which is available in 12 shades, delivers an outstanding restoration foundation with “white opaque” in certain circumstances such as with discoloured dentine areas and core build-ups. A shade guide with light-cured original shades facilitates matching the natural tooth substance in each case.
Grandio® – a systematic solution for every situation
Grandio® and Grandio® Flow - that is the developed solution for dental treatment of multiple indications from VOCO. Among them are: Class I-V cavities, restoration repair, undercut block-outs, lining and coating of cavities, reconstruction of traumatically damaged anterior teeth, facing of discoloured anteriors, repair of facings, shade and shape correction for aesthetic improvement, interlocking and splinting of loose teeth, facet repair, core build-ups for crowns, composite inlays, extended fissure sealing and luting translucent prosthetics. In conjunction with further extensions of the Grandio® range of products such as Grandio® Seal, the nano-hybrid fissure sealant, and the Grandio® Flow Veneer Kit for aesthetic prosthetics, VOCO offers a comprehensive package of state-of-the-art, systematic restorative solutions.
