Largest IDS ever – VOCO takes positive stock of the exhibition

International Dental Show continues to grow in 2011

In 2011, the IDS again proved its significance as the leading global exhibition of the dental industry. When it closed on 26.03.11 after five exhibition days, the 34th International Dental Show saw a considerable increase in exhibitors, exhibition space and visitors in comparison to 2009. 1956 exhibitors (+ 7 %) from 58 countries presented themselves and their products from the fields of dentistry and dental technology on approximately 145,000 square meters (+ 5 %). Over 115,000 trade and professional visitors (+ 9 %) from 148 countries came to Cologne to learn about products, advancements and innovations in the dental industry. Especially foreign visitors were drawn to the event in Cologne in increasing numbers this time. Their share was approximately 42 % (+ 20 %). The IDS, quoting the organisers and representatives of the German Dental Industry Association (VDDI), has again signalled new departures and given a strong impetus for continued progress in the business year. Olaf Sauerbier, VOCO Director, shares this view: "The general impression of the IDS 2011 was very good. Both the dentists and dealers were very optimistic. I think we can already attribute a portion of our revenue increase for 2011 to our new products presented here. We observed significantly more sales than during the IDS 2009. In addition to the 30th anniversary of our company, the IDS 2011 yielding such pleasing results is another reason to celebrate this year."

New VOCO products at the IDS

The IDS demonstrated again its potential as an international platform for innovations, which VOCO successfully used to present new products. Olaf Sauerbier, VOCO Director: "We presented several new products for different indications at the IDS 2011, first and foremost Grandio®SO Flow, our flowable, universal, nano-hybrid restorative material. This medium-viscosity flowable composite with its twelve shades has been specifically matched to Grandio®SO, the packable, universal, nano-hybrid restorative. I would particularly like to highlight the shade white-opaque here, because this material exhibits the highest radiopacity of the materials currently on the market. Quick Up, a self-curing luting material for attachments and secondary parts of plastic-based prostheses, is another new product by VOCO. Quick Up ensures firm hold of attachments and secondary parts in the prosthetic base, and it exhibits high stability values. This product offers the dentist the possibility to easily and neatly solve this specific problem. VOCO presented a repair system for ceramic restorations with zirconium framework at the IDS in the form of new product Cimara Zircon. In addition, VOCO presented the following small working aids that are very useful in routine dentistry and thus are highly welcome: Rebilda Form, the new shaping aids for adhesive core build-up with composite materials; and Curvy XL, a new size of the anatomically shaped, plastic interdental wedge for treatment of interdental areas." The new products, according to Mr. Sauerbier, "were all very well received, since we are offering solutions in areas that are perceived as problematic. The visitors at the two VOCO exhibition stands were able to test all of the products and receive specific information on filling, GrandioSO, bonding, prosthodontics and oral care at the product islands set up for each focal point."

    VOCO lectures in Speakers´ Corner

The specialised lectures held by numerous contributors in Speakers' Corner were met with great interest at the IDS. Exhibitors and trade associations provided information about products, services and technologies. The topics of the half-hour lectures ranged from implant systems, dental prostheses and dental aesthetics to digital dentistry, CAD/CAM and laser technology, surgery hygiene and management. VOCO also participated in this highlight of the supporting programme with the lectures "How tooth-like can a modern composite be?" and "The use of glass fibre strands in dentistry". In these lectures, Dr. Oliver Haß (Department of Knowledge Communication) and Klaus Peter Hoffmann (dentist, dental technician and Director of Product Management) also specifically discussed the VOCO products Grandio®SO and GrandTEC® and subsequently answered questions from the audience. Klaus Peter Hoffmann: "The lectures offered the opportunity to explore innovative materials and their use in different indication ranges. As expected, there were also many questions asked about their accounting options and modalities."

Drawing for a weekend in Cuxhaven and two high-quality bicycles

The IDS was a highlight for VOCO in a special year, since the company is celebrating its 30th anniversary at headquarters in Cuxhaven, Germany, in 2011. For this reason, two high-quality "Stevens" brand bicycles were raffled off at the VOCO stand. The winners are also invited to spend a weekend in Cuxhaven to ensure that the bicycles are optimally adjusted to fit their new owners. There, they can explore the tranquil North Sea spa town with all of its landmarks and amenities. The winners will shortly be personally informed.
