Preferred products: Futurabond DC, Rebilda Post System, Rebilda DC, Bifix SE and Celalux 2
In the January/February edition of its journal the renowned US testing institute, The Dental Advisor, published an overview of award-winning products preferred by dentists in the USA. These products have been clinically tested and rated as top products in their respective categories. They include the following VOCO products: Futurabond DC, Rebilda Post System, Rebilda DC, Bifix SE and Celalux 2.
The adhesive Futurabond DC was awarded five evaluation points out of five and was rated the best dual-curing, self-etching bonding agent following tests of the single dose version of the product in over 370 applications. The dentists also highlighted several advantages of the product in their evaluation, awarding Futurabond DC a particularly high rating for its viscosity and moisture tolerance. The testers found that the adhesive, especially in its single dose version, can be applied extremely hygienically, simply and quickly, enabling the entire bonding process to be carried out effectively and expeditiously. The testers were also impressed by the adhesive’s versatility which makes it suitable for a wide range of indications, comprising not only direct light-curing, dual-curing or self-curing composite restorations and core build-ups but also the luting of root posts, as well as indirect restorations (inlays, onlays, crowns and bridges) with dual or self-curing composite cements. According to the testers, there were no cases of post-operative sensitivity during the entire period over which the tests were conducted.
The adhesive core build-up set Rebilda Post System was also awarded five evaluation points out of five, as well being named “Editors’ Choice”. Rebilda Post System was tested in 212 applications. What particularly impressed the testers was the inclusion in the system of all the tools required to carry out postendodontic treatments. “A complete set with an optimum range”, “The best complete set I have ever seen”, “Perfectly coordinated drills and root posts” were just a few of the opinions expressed about the Rebilda Post System. The US dentists were also impressed by both the scope and ease of handling of the coordinated system components. Each set comprises five glass-fibre-reinforced composite root posts with diameters of 1.2 mm, 1.5 mm and 2.0 mm, with matching drills of the same diameters. The set also includes a reamer (Ø 0.7 mm), a QuickMix syringe with 10 g Rebilda DC dentine, a 5 ml bottle of Ceramic Bond as well as 15 Futurabond DC SingleDose. The testers reported that the drills included with the set cut very efficiently into the root canal. The composite root post Rebilda Post was found to be the perfect supplement to Rebilda DC, the dual-curing core build up and luting material. The latter was also one of the US dentists’ preferred products and was named “Top Core Material” by the Dental Advisor.
Bifix SE, which was awarded four and a half evaluation points out of five, was named as a preferred product in the luting cements category. This dual-curing, self-adhesive, composite-based luting system was tested by US dentists in 338 applications. The testers were impressed by the product’s ease of handling, optimum viscosity and versatility on all restoration surfaces including metals, ceramic and glass-fibre-reinforced composite posts. The QuickMix syringe prevents mixing errors and enables the product to be applied accurately. Moreover, excess material can be removed easily in the gel phase during light curing without leaving residues. Additional product advantages, according to the US dentists, include the provision in the set of different mixing cannulae as well as intraoral tips for use in the root canal and for small indirect restorations such as inlays and onlays. The testers also welcomed the range of shades provided (universal, transparent, white-opaque), with the transparent shade in particular being found to be especially suitable for luting ceramic inlays and onlays as well as translucent ceramic crowns. The testers were also impressed by Bifix SE’s short working and intraoral setting time which was as little as four minutes for chemical curing.
In the LED light-curing devices category the high-performance LED-polymerisation device Celalux 2 was awarded four and a half evaluation points out of five and was named “Editors’ Choice”. The Celalux 2 is a state-of-the-art, high-performance LED light-curing device which provides an extremely high intensity of blue light. With an average light output of 1000 mW/cm2 the Celalux 2 was found to be ideal for use on restorations with all composite materials, bonding agents, and light-curing cements. US dentists tested the Celalux 2 in over 1300 applications. They were particularly impressed by the performance and ease of handling of this state-of-the-art light-curing device. “Weighs very little”, “easy-to-change programmes”, “its compact dimensions make it suitable for the molar region as well” were just a few of the advantages cited for the Celalux 2. The testing dentists rated the device as “very good” in all the following categories: handling, battery performance, battery life and speed and ease of disinfection.
